Funds given directly to the College include scholarships for students, scholarships for the children of COD students to attend the Child Development Center, funds to purchase equipment and software, funds to renovate the science building and Marks Center for the Arts, mini-grants to faculty for professional development and improving classroom instruction, support for the Library, new program dollars for the Nursing and Public Safety Academy programs, support for “Smart classrooms”, etc.

Community colleges are the largest workforce provider in the state and offer more than 175 degree and certificate programs in hundreds of fields such as, advance manufacturing, biotechnology, business and computer science. The system trains more than 70 percent of nurses and 80 percent of the fire, law enforcement and emergency medical technicians in California."
