From Zero To 60… In 21,900 Days. We Are COD!

 
 
 
College of the Desert kicked off its 60th Anniversary at the 2018 State of the College event January 24.
 
Superintendent/President Joel L. Kinnamon’s address included several exciting announcements, including:
 
COD plEDGE PROGRAM TO GUARANTEE TWO YEARS AT COD TUITION FREE FOR CLASS OF 2018
 
Your first two years at College of the Desert are guaranteed - tuition free.
 
       
       
60TH ANNIVERSARY GARDEN OF FLAGS LAUNCHED
 
The 60th Anniversary Garden of Flags symbolizes the seeds of support you plant at COD to grow tomorrow’s workforce, tomorrow’s leaders. They are flags of hope and belief in the power of higher education to change lives.

 
REGIONAL CENTER FOR DIGITAL MEDIA EDUCATION TO ANCHOR COD WEST VALLEY CAMPUS
 
Agreement to partner with David Vogel, former President of Walt Disney Studios and DIGICOM to help lead development of the new center to serve as a focal point for the study and application of digital media in today’s society and as the next chapter in College of the Desert’s service to the region. 
Phillip K. Smith  
 
PLANS FOR 60TH ANNIVERSARY SCULPTURE ANNOUNCED
 
Artist and COD alumnus Phillip K. Smith will work with the College this year to create a signature 60th anniversary installation for permanent placement on the campus – honoring our past and inspiring future generations to continue the dream.

OBSERVATORY DEDICATED
 
Ivoj Kudrnac was recognized for his contribution of telescopes and observatory at the Mecca/Thermal campus.  The observatory will benefit students in astronomy and STEM disciplines both in person and remotely in classrooms at all COD campuses as well as shared with our K-12 and community partners and the public in future Observatory education events.
